Most churches build their website in-house. Oftentimes this is a cost-saving measure to help extend the limited resources of the church. These websites are heavy on design, with rich imagery and visuals. But they are also oftentimes largely ineffective with huge page speed load times. Their site could be ranking low for a number of reasons. It could be that they lack content, and the text to HTML ratio (SEO term) is low. Or it could be that their images don’t have “alt text.” Images without alternative text are completely invisible to Google and Bing. It could be that they have too many of the same type of header tags (H1, H2, H3, etc.).
